The Great American Smokeout is an annual event sponsored by the American Cancer Society (ACS) focused on encouraging Americans to quit tobacco use. It is held on the third Thursday of November.
Smoking remains the single largest preventable cause of death and disease in the world. Tobacco is the 2nd leading cause of death among youth in Colorado and approximately 480,000 people die each year due to tobacco use. The northeast region of Colorado has more than double the state average number of men who use smokeless tobacco.
If you use tobacco and want to quit, there are resources to help you quit such as the Colorado Quitline. To learn more go to www.coquitline.org or call 1.800.QUIT.NOW.
