All Hazards Preparedness has become a crucial program at the Northeast Colorado Health Department. After the events of Sept. 11, 2001, public health took a leading role in emergency response planning. Part of this planning involves ensuring that we are ready to respond to any public health emergency we may face, whether it be natural or manmade. As NCHD only has 40 staff members within our six counties, it is very evident that we have an immediate need for community volunteers. Volunteers play a very important role in a community's successful response during an emergency. While NCHD is prepared to direct an emergency response, volunteers and our community partners will provide the majority of the manpower to make it happen. Our goal is to have as many registered volunteers as possible so that when the need arises we will have a workforce that is ready, willing and trained to make a contribution. Non-medical volunteer positions that are needed may include:
NCHD is also looking for volunteers with medical training that are not already committed to a health care facility. These people could include practicing or retired physicians, nurses, paramedics, technicians, pharmacists, dentists, veterinarians, or other health professionals.
