Secondhand Smoke
Tobacco is the number one public health problem in Colorado and the nation. It is harmful to not only the person who smokes, but also to those who are around them. It can be directly attributed to increases in medical insurance and life insurance, not to mention death rates.
Each Colorado household carries a state and federal tax burden of $501 each year due to health related costs from smoking, even though they may not smoke.
NCHD's mission for the Tobacco Education Program is to reduce tobacco use and exposure to secondhand smoke in the six northeast counties through advocacy, education, prevention and cessation support.
